Lala Lala unleashes new chapter with "Arrow." she opens the door to "Heaven 2," the upcoming fifth studio album from singer-songwriter Lillie West, who’s based in Los Angeles and here embarks on a moment of hushed accounting set to densely layered sound. The track, penned and produced by West, establishes the emotional tenor for an album that is cloaked in contemplation, acceptance, and the bittersweet loveliness of release.
“Arrow” is borne along by a sense of forward movement without urgency, as if it were leading the listener rather than shoving. The production, sculpted in partnership with Jay Som’s Melina Duterte, is warm yet airy, giving each instrument room to breathe. Duterte’s guitar, bass, and drum kit on the track add to its earthiness and sense of being played rather than manufactured.
“Arrow” is a story about letting go of control and pushing back against that resistance. There’s an undercurrent of spiritual surrender running through the track, one that admits that holding on to expectations can, in subtle ways, determine our suffering.
