PROJECT MEG's debut release turns the darkest life reset into a bold new beginning titled "force quit"

PROJECT MEG, the solo project of Meg Mash, releases her debut single, “force quit," that feels like a gut punch from the neon lights. We were already excited to hear what she’d do next, as fans of her previous band, Sarpa Salpa. What we didn’t anticipate was a track that feels both deeply personal and undeniably catchy. "force quit,” is an anthemic synth-pop release that’s full of hooks and melodies you’ll be humming long after it fades out. It’s that contrast that makes the song irresistible.

It’s what someone sounds like when they’re just trying to move on, but refuse to leave anything behind. UK artist Meg Mash is a familiar name on the country’s indie scene thanks to her membership in several bands, of those, Sarpa Salpa has become one of the biggest. But long COVID, which sent her life into a tailspin and caused her to step back from the music scene she’d worked so hard to create, changed all that. “force quit” is the first hint of the emotional debris that resulted from that transformation.

force quit" depicts the confusion, grief, and quiet rage that come from losing a piece of yourself and being forced to redefine what happens next. It is a bracing debut, not simply for its sound but what that connotes, an artist forced to begin again, who has elected to transform it into something cathartic and ferocious. “force quit” is a calling card not for PROJECT MEG as the continuation of what has been, but as something new and bold.
