Ordinary People is back with a quiet new anthem in "Rain"

Ordinary People, the Los Angeles-based indie rock band that formed in another century, is back with "Rain", a quietly powerful new single that leans into longing rather than shaking it off. Released on Parallel Vision/Big Loud Rock, the track follows "Ready or Not", "Propaganda", and "Thank You" as offerings since their debut album arrived, and it reads like a confident stride into the band's emotional heart.

"Rain", produced by Brad Shultz of Cage the Elephant, expertly balances atmosphere and restraint. The guitars are textured but not forced, the rhythm section quietly pushes forward without ever overwhelming its emotional center.  Winegardner's voice is at home in the mix, serving up assertions that are familiar but not mundane. Written by bandmates Konrad Ulich and Nicky Winegardner, "Rain" intertwines the strangeness of the memory of someone who always manages to stay everywhere after they leave.

This track is the kind of song that earns your attention just by telling the truth. The band says that "Rain" is how it feels not to be able to get out of someone's head, when everything looks like the person, the art, the weather, and even silence. And that translates easily into the music, which washes over you gently.

Common People further develop their voice in "Rain", showing that weakness can be a strength in indie rock. With the band gearing up to support Rainbow Kitten Surprise on their upcoming North American tour, "Rain" serves as a reminder that what often packs the biggest punch is sitting with whatever hurts and finding beauty in it.
